I wanted to begin by explaining that despite my cuisine this weekend, I am NOT an alcoholic. I'm just an American teenager who was lucky enough to spend the weekend at Oktoberfest. Guys, let me tell you this: beer should be considered a food group in Germany. I usually try to dive into the authentic cuisine of the country I'm in, but I had a little trouble while in Germany.

The first night, I had dinner by myself while my sister was at a work meeting. She explained to me that I had to try some form of schnitzel for dinner, so I began my search for a traditional little German pub. Sadly, every single restaurant (and there was about 15) in the town square was either Italian or Greek. I didn't care to venture off outside of the hub by myself that night, so I settled for Italian food. Blasphemous, I know.

The second day was Oktoberfest. On the two-hour trip down, I consumed so many calories it's not even funny. I tasted gingerbread-type cookies, chocolate macaroons (which I bought assuming they were actual mini macaroons...), a loaf of bread, and a pretzel. Wait, I also tried a drink called Spezi, which is a classic soft drink consisting of half orange soda and half cola. Imagine vanilla-coke, but with orange. Interesting taste...

Finally, Oktoberfest had arrived! This is where the whole "I promise I'm not an alcoholic" statement comes into play. The group and I pregamed the festival by taking a few shots of "Jagddchloss", which is a knockoff version of Jägermeister, and downing a weissbier. Looking back, it probably wasn't my best decision to drink before drinking...if that makes sense? We arrive at Oktoberfest and get to our table. Out comes the liter (Maßkrug) of beer and down it goes. Falling in front of me next was half of a chicken (which I devoured before I remembered to take a picture). More beer: another Maßkrug...or two...or three. Throw in the biggest pretzel I have ever seen and top it all off with currywurst (which I also forgot to photograph but is sausage with curry ketchup) and boom! Ladies and gentleman--I present to you my Oktoberfest cuisine.
